The Friends of the National Parks Foundation

SAMSUNG CSC

The Bali Starling sits at the heart of the Friends of the National Park Foundation (FNPF). A unique space has been created for the Bali Starling on Nusa Penida where the FNPF has mobilised local community with autonomous agreements from all 46 villages to allow and encourage the endangered birds to live and breed freely anywhere on the island. The FNPF’s continuous community engagement and conservation programs run out of the main centre near the village of Ped that provides a home for the birds before they are released. Such initiatives have created numerous jobs and opportunities for the local people. Our SCU team experienced firsthand the generosity and determination of the FNPF as we immersed ourselves in some of these projects and stayed with the dedicated staff on site. What really stood out to us was the strong Hindu beliefs and mindfulness in the community that resonate throughout the projects and goals which the foundation hope to achieve.
